Sally’s “Foodie Frolics” tour was recommended to us by our friend Bev, as a way of getting to know the city and enjoy a taste of great Turkish food and wine. We opted for the Two-Continents full-day tour and Sally was very willing to adjust the program for the day to allow for the fact that we had already had a few days in the city and visited some of the highlights. This meant we were able to spend more time concentrating on the really important stuff like markets, food and good wine. Sally met us with freshly baked simits and cheese for breakfast before heading down through the Tünel funicular and across Galata Bridge to the Spice Market where we sampled Turkish cheese, olives and smallgoods. Her friend Mehmet introduced us to the most beautiful hand-made nougat and Turkish delight, while we sampled a range of exotic tea blends and watched a saffron demonstration. Other highlights included trying the best lahmacun in town, eating Gaziantep mezes and salads for lunch and learning a bit about Turkish grape varieties in a wine garden in Kadikoy. We finished off the day selecting the PERFECT bottle of local wine at a wine bar in Beşiktaş, a great end to a most enjoyable day. Thanks Sally, for your EXCELLENT tour, informative advice and good company. Will tell all our friends.
